Parallels between the world of the novel and our world today
The government obviously didn't turn out to be like it was in 1984. The real government doesn't have that much power. Our government doesn't brain wash us and watch us constantly. There may be many things the government does that we don't know about, but I don't think the government brain washes us. There isn't many similarities between our government and the government in 1984. If we keep letting the government pass laws that lets them listen to our phone calls our government may become more like the government in 1984. One similarity is T.V. commercial that try to get us to hate George bush or not to like a certain president. Those commercials are like two minute hate because that commercial tries to get you to hate the one person and like the other. There are some similarities but, I don't think our world will ever be a dystopia and have a government that powerful. Our government will never be able to control our minds and make us believe things that are not true at all. It is a scary thing to think about a government that can control people lives .

Important ideas from your classmates
Reading other peoples ideas helped me understand the book much better. When reading other blogs I got to read there opinions and made the book more interesting and easier to understand. Without the blogs I wouldn't have liked the book as much because I probably wouldn't have understood the book. Sometimes the blogs didn't help because I was reading peoples blogs that didn't read the book and I could tell the person had no clue what they were talking about. Overall I liked the blogs and if you keep up with the blogs they will help you.
Reading Adams blogs helped me because I thought he understood the book very well and he explained all the confusing parts of the book like doublethink. It was very confusing when O'Brien was interrogating Winston because O'Brien was using doublethink and I was having trouble understanding that section of the book. The blogs helped me more than hurt me, to me the blogs are a good idea and they made a big difference.

Warnings that the author is trying to get across
In the 1984 the author tried to get a warning across about how powerful a government could be. I thought the author did a very good job in doing that. The government is very powerful in 1984 and basically controls all of the peoples lives. The author gives a good warning about what the future might be like and its a scary thing to think about. Another warning that the author gets across is doublethink, if the government could use doublethink on people is would be very bad. All the people would like the government even if they did something horrible. Doublethink is very powerful and the author gets a good warning across about doublethink.
When the author wrote the book was trying to get a warning across about what the world may be coming to. He wanted people to notice how good the world is now and how bad it could be if people let it get out of hand. When the book was writing he people must have been surprised of how bad the world could be. George Orwell must have gotten a good warning across because the world didn't turn out horrible.

Important ideas
In 1984 there are many important ideas and many confusing ideas. the government has to keep the people in control and here's how I think they do it.
One important idea is doublethink, its important because it basically controls the people. Double think can make someone believe something that is not true, true. The government in the book uses doublethink to trick the people a lot. Another important idea is two minute hate. Two minute hate is important because it teaches people to hate the rebels and the people who hate Big Brother. It also keeps people from rebelling and teaches them to like Big Brother. There is many important ideas the government does to keep the people in order and not let them know how horrible there society is. A very good idea the government uses is the telescreens, the telescreens are good because they keep the people from doing things there not allowed to do. Anytime the government wants they can watch Winston through the telescreens . The telescreens keep the people in line. In my opinion telescreens is what makes the peoples life very bad because they cant even write a book or do anything fun or something against big brother without being seen. If they are caught by the telescreens doing something wrong the police would put the person to death or hard labor camp for many years.

Is It a fake?
In my opinion, there is no such thing as Emmanuel Goldstein, Big Brother, Eastasia or Eurasia, and The Party. I read this from Olivias blog and all those people could be fake and there just there to keep the people in control of the government. I think Goldstein is fake and is just there so the people dont fight again BIg Brother. The government has Goldstein as a person to hate so the people can yell and think that Goldstein is a bad guy. In my opinion Big Brother is fake and its just a simble that people are afraid of. Im pretty sure there is a government but I dont think Big Brother is real, Big Brother is just there to scare to people and make them think he is the leader. There is no Big Brother of Goldstein put I think there is a party becauese if there wasnt the people wouldnt be living in these terrible conditions and there wouldnt be thought police or anything like that.
discussion
The other day in class we a gruop discussion about our books. The discussion went well I it helped me understand that book more. We should have those more often because 1984 is a condusion book and its good to hear other people opinions on the book. After the first discussion I understood the book more and liked the book a little more to. In our discussion we discussed quotes from the book and everyone had different qoutes and they were all good. A popular statement that came up in our discussion was the book is confusing and a lot of things need to be answered and explained more. Some people from the group also said the book was slow and there wasnt much action, I agree but I think the author ment the book to be like that.

Do they know?
All the people in this society live in this horrible world and they dont even know. They cant remember what there past life was like because the government controls the past. The people will never know what the past society was like.
There are many ways the government controls the people. One of the ways is double think and the thought police. Thought police is a main reason because they can see what your doing at anytime and if your caught doing something wrong theres a strong punishment. Double think is another main reason because it can make you beleive almost anything. Double think is very powerfull and they can trick you to beleive something thats not ture at all. The can convince you if your working and your getting payed 15 dollars an hour and they cut it to 13 dollars an hour and they would tell you its a raise from 10, and you would beleive its a raise. So I think double think controls what they know and what there going to know. Since the government basically controls the past you can never remember what it used to be like. Winston always tries to remember what the past was like put he never can remember his childhood. Eventually I think Winston is going to figure out the government, he may risk his life but he will remember his past and understand the government. The government is very powerfull and Its amazing that they control this people and keep them living in this horrible society.

Garrett, 1984
I have started reading 1984 and it seems like its a good book. 1984 seems like a interesting book about a dytopia. The book is about Winston Smith who is the main character, Winstons life seems bad. His life is difficult and he is hardly allowed to do anyithng because of the Thought police who were always watching. He is always being watched by the government and if he does anything wrong he can be killed of put in camps. His life is basically contolled by this government and whenever the governtment wants to watch him they can. Winstons life seems horrible and i wouldnt want to live in that type of society. From the first couple pages I can tell this book is going to be a exciting book.
